Mike grew up in Northwest Spokane, where he was given a long leash by his parents, allowing him to explore his little corner of the world to his restless heart's content. His many interests include the arts, the sciences, history, politics and philosophy. He spent six years as a staff writer at The Inlander and had a long tenure hosting a music show at KYRS, Spokane's community radio station. Mike landed at Auntie's in 2016 and found it full of good people and so, so many good books (the stack of "gonna-read-soons" continues to grow). Outside of work, he's obsessed with film and filmmaking and occasionally plays guitar in a local rock band. He enjoys reading science fiction plus history, science, and exploration books.

Finnegan's memoir tracks his 50-year love affair with the breaking wave, a passion that has taken him all over the world from the California and Hawaiian beaches of his youth to some of the most legendary surfing hot spots known to humankind: South Africa, Australia, Indonesia, Fiji and beyond. But Barbarian Days is much more than a loving ode to surfing. It's also a journey of self-discovery, a celebration of nature, anda thoughtful meditation on family and friendship.
